Korea has many hospitals and screening centers that offer check-up programs, but the choices, forms and language support can feel unclear at first. This guide explains the main steps so you can plan with confidence.

What a health check-up usually involves

A health check-up (in Korean, “geongang geomjin”) is a set of tests that looks at your general health. Programs differ by hospital, but most combine three kinds of tests:

Blood tests — a single sample can check your blood count, liver and kidney function, thyroid, cholesterol and, in many programs, hepatitis B and C.

Urine tests — these look at your kidneys and urinary tract, including signs of protein or sugar.

Imaging — such as a chest X-ray, ultrasound (for example thyroid or abdomen), CT or endoscopy, depending on the program.

Most programs also include a health questionnaire, basic measurements such as blood pressure and vision, and a consultation in which a doctor explains your results.

Which tests are included depends on the program you choose and on what the doctor considers appropriate for you. A doctor decides which tests are suitable after talking with you. This article cannot tell you what you need.

Step 1: Decide what you want from the check-up

Before you contact anyone, it helps to write down a few things:

Your purpose. Is this a routine check-up, a requirement for work or study, or something you want to check because of your family history?

Your dates. How many days will you be in Korea, and which days are free?

Your medical history. Bring a list of any medications you take and any past conditions or tests you can document.

Your language needs. Do you need an interpreter for the check-up and for the results consultation?

If a company or school asked you for a check-up, ask them which tests and which form they require. Requirements vary, so confirm before you book.

Step 2: Compare your options

Check-up providers in Korea include university hospitals, general hospitals and dedicated screening centers. When comparing, consider:

Location and access. How far is it from where you are staying?

Program content. Which tests are included, and which are optional?

Language support. Is an interpreter available, and can you receive your report in a language you can read?

Preparation. Some tests, such as endoscopy or certain blood tests, need fasting the night before.

Result timing. The check-up itself usually takes a morning, but the doctor often explains the results a few days later. Ask about this before you book, because it affects how long you should stay.

Comparing these points yourself can take time, especially when websites are only in Korean. This is where Cnect can help: we line up comparable programs from our partner hospitals so you can see them side by side.

Step 3: Prepare for the day

The hospital will give you specific instructions, and you should follow them. In general, visitors are often asked to:

Fast before the visit if blood tests or endoscopy are planned. Ask the hospital how many hours.

Bring your passport or another photo ID.

Bring your medication list and any recent test results you have.

Arrive early to complete registration and forms.

If you are unsure whether to continue a medication before a test, ask the hospital or your own doctor. Do not decide this alone.

Step 4: Understand your results

A doctor reviews your results and explains them. If something needs follow-up, the doctor will explain the next steps, which may include a visit to a specialist. Keep a copy of your report, and ask whether it can be provided in a language you can use. If you are leaving Korea soon, ask how you can receive your records after you travel.

Your results are best discussed with a qualified doctor. Cnect does not interpret medical results or give medical advice.

How Cnect helps

Cnect is a registered medical travel facilitator in Busan, not a hospital. Our role is to make the process easier. We can:

Compare check-up programs from partner hospitals that fit your schedule and needs

Explain each step, from preparation to results, in your language

Help you arrange your check-up date with the hospital

Arrange an interpreter for your check-up and results consultation

We do not perform examinations or decide which tests you need. That is always up to the doctor.

Ready to plan your check-up?

If you are in Korea now, or planning a trip, tell us your dates and what you would like to check. We will help you compare your options.

See check-up programs in Busan

If you are visiting Korea for a few days or weeks and want a health check-up, you may not know where to start.
